A LAKES society will hold an biannual sermon celebration of local dialect.
The Lakeland Dialect Society will this year welcome reverend Marie-Elsa Bragg at a church service held in June.
Held every other year, the service is comprised of readings and hymns, read out and sung in Cumbrian dialect.
The rev Bragg is the daughter of celebrated author and broadcaster, Lord Melvyn Bragg, of Wigton. A duty chaplain at Westminster Abbey Ms Bragg recently published the Cumbria centric novel, 'Towards Mellbreak'.
The theme of the service this year, which will be held at St Brega's Church, in Bassenthwaite, is ‘Oor Spiritual Yam’ and members of the dialect society will provide musical intervals and contributions in dialect to go alongside.
Dialect supporters are expected to travel from all over the county to join in the event which will include hymns such as For Aw t’ Beauty of This Earth and Praise The Lord, Aw T’Hevven Adore Him.
The service will be held on June 17, at 3pm.
