READERS captured stunning pictures of a huge military plane which was seen flying low over Barrow.
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules, a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft, flew over the town this lunchtime and is understood to have been carrying out landing exercises at Walney Airfield.
Les Douglas captured a dramatic shot of the plane as it flew low above the Barrow landscape.
Another member of the Beauty of Barrow and Furness Facebook page said: "Hercules transport. I watched it from the golf links. They sometimes use the airfield to do dummy landing and take off ops which it did today."
Mark Waite commented on The Mail's Facebook page: "Due to the location and small runways they use Walney to practice tactical insertion and recovery of troops and special forces."
Helen Gregory posted: " It flew over Bardsea this morning and one that looked like that was nearly skimming the trees at fell foot last week. Amazing to see so closely."
James Kirkby added: "C130 Hercules, knew it was the moment I saw it. They've done it for years. it varies as to how many there are, sometimes there's three, sometimes one, sometimes a couple of planes and some helicopters when they're practising full manoeuvres."
Dale Taylor said: "Been doing it for years. But a brilliant sight and our little airfield takes it. Class."
