EMERGENCY services made attempts to help an injured dolphin on the Morecambe Bay sands today - but the stranded mammal had to be put to sleep.
Morecambe Coastguard, The RSPCA and Lancashire Police all attended the scene at Morecambe this afternoon.
It is understood that some people out fishing had raised the alarm about the injured dolphin.
A large crowd of people - including visitors from Furness - watched on as the emergency services tried to help the mammal.
The Coastguard service has confirmed that the dolphin was put to sleep due to its injuries.
