GILLIGAN Donal (Don) Former fitter at VSEL and retained Fire Fighter at Dalton Station, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on 9th August 2023 aged 84 years. Beloved husband of the late Kathleen. Much loved dad of Donna and Jacky. Dear father-in-law, grandad, great grandad and a good friend to many. Friends please meet for service at Thorncliffe Crematorium on Wednesday 23rd August at 1.45pm. Family flowers only please. I have a lot of memories of Don and Kath and Donna and Jackie, which began in 1967. Don was at that time a retained Fireman with Lancashire Fire Brigade in Dalton, and he used to be seen rushing out of his home at the sound of a siren and call bell which he had fitted in his house. I always used to ask him what the call was, and he took me to the fire station to show me around the Bedford Pump . I eventually joined the Brigade for a short but reflective time, and attended many an incident with Don as a Leading Fireman and George Hayes as long standing Sub Officer. Don eventually became Sub Officer. Lots of memories. Deepest Condolences to Donna and Jackie . Rest in Peace Don.
