A Eurovision star pulled out of performing at Kendal Calling, leaving some readers pondering why.
Sam Ryder, a singer-songwriter from Essex who co-wrote his second place Eurovision song Spaceman, was set to be performing at the festival on Saturday.
The British hopeful delighted fans at home by topping the national jury vote with 283 points, beating favourites Spain and Sweden, in the country’s best result in 20 years.
A spokesman for Kendal Calling said: “Unfortunately, @SamRyderMusic won't be able to join us today, we wish him the speediest of recoveries!”
Readers speculated why he pulled out of his performance.
Barbara Wild said: "Must have seen the weather forecast."
Amy Diane Richardson said: "Hope he's ok."
Judith Wall said: "He must be unwell as they are wishing him a speedy recovery, plus he is not the first one to cancel concerts. These things happen."
Catherine Thomson said: "Probably stuck in the traffic."
Chris Ballantyne said: "So there's a space man."
Jimmy Lettice Bem said: "Stuck in traffic likely!!"
Matthew Manning sad: "He's stuck in space man."
Other readers questioned who he was, with one mistaking him for a member of Swedish super group ABBA.
Phil Taylor said: "Was he in Neighbours once?"
David Casper Farish said: "I thought it was one of lads in ABBA."
Tim Kirby said: "Who is he?"
Explaining to those who are not aware of Sam Ryder, Josh Calvert said: "Second at Eurovision, UK Number One and most followed artist in TikTok."
