STAR striker Byron Harrison went under the knife this morning for surgery on his ankle.
The Barrow AFC hot-shot – top-scorer last season, with 22 goals across all competitions – has been troubled by a recurrence of the injury first picked up in January.
Harrison missed almost all of the final three months of the season after hurting his ankle falling to the ground following taking a ball to the face in the 3-0 National League win over Lincoln City.
He returned to the side for several brief appearances before the end of the campaign – scoring his final goal in the win at Braintree Town – but did not look 100 per cent.
After his return to pre-season training at the end of last month, Harrison met with new physio Matt Butterfield, who recommended he see a specialist.
That resulted in the surgery on the problem, with hopes it will only keep him out of action for a few weeks.
AFC boss Paul Cox said: “Byron is looking decent. He is under the surgeon's knife this morning. From what we have been told initially, the damage is not as bad as expected, and the time-frame is going to be pretty good, but we will know for sure tomorrow morning after we know how the operation has gone.”
