MORE youngsters will be brought into golf this spring as part of a campaign to broaden the appeal of the sport.
Girls Golf Rocks will return to Barrow Golf Club next month, after a successful first year in Cumbria saw close to 60 children taking part.
Of that number, 42 went on to take a coaching course, with the hope this year's programme will prove a similar hit.
Four clubs across the county will take part in the scheme, with Barrow the focus of attention in the south.
The free session, on Saturday, April 21, will be followed by group coaching courses with PGA professionals and support from young ambassadors from the county squads.
It will run between 2.30pm and 4.30pm and is open to all girls, regardless of whether or not they have an impairment.
Following the tasters, each club will offer a five-week coaching course with PGA professionals. Then the new players will be invited to a fun day with the ambassadors – themselves young players – featuring multi-skills challenges and the chance to play on a golf course.
