BARROW AFC were going into this afternoon’s game away to unbeaten York City in third place in the Conference, writes GRAHAM DIXON.
Jason Walker’s 89th minute winner lifted the buoyant Bluebirds – the league’s top scorers with 10 goals – up from seventh place.
York were sitting only one point behind in sixth place after a 2-2 draw away to Ebbsfleet United.
AFC joint manager Darren Sheridan felt his side deserved to take the three points from the game on Saturday.
He said: “There wasn’t much in it but I always felt we were going to win.
“Another full-time team have come here and we’ve done the business.
“I said to the lads at the break, second half we’ll win the game, it was a bit scrappy but we battled well.
“The two new lads (Ashley Winn and Paul Black) did well, they’ve got good engines going up and down.
“I would have given our first to Lee Hunt rather than an own goal and Jason (Walker) timed his leap well for the winner.”
Sheridan and fellow boss Dave Bayliss were left debating whether to stick with an unchanged team for today’s visit to Kit Kat Crescent.
Defender Mike Pearson was available again following his one match suspension.
Striker Paul Tait also missed Saturday’s game after turning his ankle in training.
