THE M6 northbound is closed between two junctions due to an HGV fire.
The carriageway is closed between junctions 32 and 33 with a block in place between junctions 34 and 33.
The fire is said to be strong and traffic needs to be kept away from the scene.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue and North West Motorway Police are both at the scene.
Just before 9pm, the motorway police tweeted that the incident was likely to be ongoing "for some time". Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
