FURNESS and District Beekeepers' Association will be running training sessions starting this season.

The charity runs training apiaries - a place where bees are kept - in Outcast near Ulverston and Haverthwaite.

Sessions for beekeepers of any skill level or level of experience are run at 10.30am on Saturday mornings through the spring and summer. According to the association, all you need to attend your first session is a pair of wellington boots.

The club provides suits, gloves, veils, the equipment and bees.

A spokesperson from the association said that there is a 'small' membership fee for the insurance that covers diseases and mishaps.

If you would like to attend a Saturday morning session as a taster, email secretary Carole Barr at carolebarr2@aol.com

Chair Graham Jackson said: "Keeping bees is hugely rewarding but help, advice and know-how are needed to get into it. These are what Furness and District Beekeepers are able to provide.”
