A COASTGUARD team was called out to assist with a medical emergency in the early hours.
Furness Coastguard were paged at 00.10am today to assist North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Barrow Lifeboat with a medical emergency on Piel Island.
As the team arrived at the lifeboat station, an update was received from the crew of the Inshore Lifeboat that they had assessed the casualty and that they were well enough to walk to their Inshore Rescue Boat.
The person was safely transported from Piel Island back to the Lifeboat station where they were handed over to the waiting ambulance crew for further assessment and onward transportation.
If in danger around the coast, or you think someone else is, dial #999 and ask for the coastguard.
