A SEX offender landed himself in court after he breached his suspended sentence.

Andrew Mark Wakefield, 55, is due to be sentenced at a crown court after he admitted to possessing a laptop which put him in breach of a sexual harm prevention order previously handed down to him.

In October 2018, Wakefield was handed a nine-month jail sentence suspended for two years at Preston Crown Court after he admitted voyeurism by recording someone using a toilet with the intention of watching it for sexual gratification.

He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years.

Under the order he was told to inform police of any internet-enabled devices in his possession.

But Wakefield was hauled before South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with breaching it.

The defendant, of Schooner Street, Barrow, was said to have been found to have breached the order when police visited his house.

The court heard that during a routine visit to his address officers spotted a HP laptop belonging to his partner.

In interview he admitted he had used it and had not reported to the police that he had access to the device.

This then led to the previous suspended sentence being triggered.

The hearing had been previously been adjourned by the court after magistrates were unable to identify the defendant.

A man thought to have been Wakefield turned up to court claiming to be a representative of the defendant.

He gave his name as ‘Andrew of the house Wakefield’ and when asked to provide his address said: “I live in my body.”

Magistrates did not go ahead with the hearing and the man was removed from the court by security staff.

The defendant is due to be sentenced for the breach at Preston Crown Court on November 13.
