There are six flood warnings now in place across Cumbria this afternoon, as well as 11 flood alerts.

Flood warnings are now no longer in place for the Appleby area, which is now only covered by a flood alert.

However flood warnings are still in place in the Carlisle, Penrith, Keswick and Cockermouth areas.

Flooding is expected in the Rickerby Park area of Carlisle until about 6pm today.

It is also expected in the Armathwaite area, Eden Hall near Langwathby, Bolton south of Kirkby Thore and the Sands area of Appleby.

Flooding is also expected at Pooley Bridge, Keswick campsite and low-lying parts of the Cockermouth area.

Carlisle area

Flood Warnings

River Eden, Carlisle, in the Rickerby Park, Swifts and Stoneyholme golf courses area

  • Flooding is expected here today until about 6pm.
  • River levels are currently forecast to peak at midday.

River Eden at Armathwaite, The Castle and Brocklewath

  • Low lying areas along the River Eden in the Armathwaite area are expected to flood.
  • The Environment Agency said: "Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

Flood Alerts

Rivers Esk and Irthing, Brampton and Longtown area

  • Flooding of properties is not being forecast by the Environment Agency at this point.
  • However, low-lying roads and farmland are expected to flood today.

Lower River Eden, Carlisle area

  • River levels are still rising on the Lower River Eden as a result of overnight rainfall.
  • Flooding is possible, says the Environment Agency.
  • Further rainfall is expected overnight so river levels may stay above flood alert level into Sunday.
  • The agency expects river levels to be at their highest point today between 3pm and 5pm.

Rivers Caldew and Petteril

  • River levels are still high at the Botcherby Bridge river gauge, as a result of overnight rainfall.
  • Persistent overnight rainfall has now cleared the area and river levels are now beginning to fall.
  • The Environment Agency expects rivers to be back to normal range by the early evening.

Middle River Eden, Armathwaite to Wetheral

  • River levels have risen at the Great Corby river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall overnight.
  • Flooding is possible of low-lying roads and farmland until 7.30pm tonight.
  • Environment Agency incident response staff have been checking defences in the area this morning.

Penrith area

Flood Warnings

River Eden at Eden Hall

  • The Environment Agency stated this morning that flooding of property, farmland and roads west of Langwathby was expected from 10am.
  • "The current rainfall has now cleared the area and river levels are expected peak just above the flood warning level and start to fall throughout this afternoon," the agency also stated.

Ullswater and River Eamont at Pooley Bridge, Ullswater Steamer Pier to B5320 Bridge

  • River levels in the Pooley Bridge area are expected to stay high until later today.
  • The Environment Agency is advising against using low-lying footpaths in the area.

Rivers Lowther and Eamont

  • River and lake levels remain high at as a result of overnight rainfall.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Bampton, Patterdale, Glenridding, Dockray, Pooley Bridge, Dacre, Eamont Bridge and Penrith areas are expected to be affected.

Appleby area

  • River levels remain high at Appleby River gauge as a result of overnight rainfall.
  • Persistent overnight rainfall has now cleared the area and river levels are now beginning to fall.
  • River levels are expected to be back to normal by this afternoon.

Keswick area

River Greta at Keswick, Keswick Campsite, Rugby Club and Quinta

  • River levels are forecast to drop below the flood warning level later this afternoon.
  • However, the Environment Agency said: "Low lying roads, properties and campsites in Keswick adjacent to the Rivers Greta and Derwent, including Greta Park Rugby Football Ground, Keswick Campsite, Keswick School Sports Field, Keswick Show Field and Playing Field areas are at risk."

Rivers Greta, St Johns Beck and Bassenthwaite Lake

  • River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Keswick Campsite river gauge.
  • More showers are forecast today, but levels will continue to fall.

Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water

  • Derwent Water Lake level remains high following recent heavy rain.
  • There is still a risk of flooding of low lying land, roads and footpaths around the lake edge.

Cockermouth area

Rivers Cocker and Derwent at Cockermouth, Cricket Ground and Trout Hotel Car Park

  • Low-lying areas adjacent to the River Cocker are expected to flood.
  • River levels are expected to peak at midday.
  • The river may stay above flood warning level until about 6pm this evening.

Rivers Cocker, Marron and Derwent

  • River and lake levels are still high at as a result of overnight rainfall, so flooding of roads and low lying land is possible.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Buttermere, Lorton Valley, Cockermouth, Branthwaite, Bridgefoot, Camerton, Barepot and Workington areas may be affected.

Windermere area

Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster

  • Windermere Lake levels are still high following recent rainfall. Consequently, the risk flooding of low lying land and roads is likely to remain a possibility for a number of days.
  • Low lying land and roads are at risk in Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Hawkshead, Rusland Valley, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cartmel, Cark and Winster Valley areas.

Millom, Ulverston and Barrow area

  • Flooding of roads and low lying land is possible.
  • Low lying land and roads in the Dunnerdale, Duddon Bridge, Broughton-in-Furness, Kirkby-in-Furness, Soutergate, Coniston, Ulverston, Dalton-in-Furness areas are expected to be affected.
