THE body in the car fire has been identified as an adult male.

Emergency services were called to a tackle a vehicle fire on land adjacent to Salthouse Mills early Monday morning.

Shortly after arriving police and fire crews discovered a body in the vehicle, the death is not thought to be suspicious.

A Cumbria police spokesman said: "We can confirm the body located in the vehicle is that of an adult male. There are no suspicious circumstances around his death, although it remains unexplained. The coroner has been informed. Inquiries are ongoing to confirm his identity.

Crime scene investigators were at the scene and a community support officer was posted at the perimeter to stop members of the public getting close.
