A SINKHOLE in Barrow has prompted an emergency road closure.
Cumbria County Council have confirmed they were forced to close the back street between Brighton Street and Windsor Street.
This is due to a sinkhole which has appeared on the street.
The road will remain closed for 21 days in order to allow the necessary repairs to be made.
A Cumbria County Council spokesman said: “We were contacted to reports of a sinkhole in the area this morning and after we sent someone to assess the situation it was found to be subsidence potentially as a result of a leaking drain.
“United Utilities have been called and will be carrying out any repair work.”
This is one of various road closures to be announced recently.
Cumbria Highways also announced a temporary road closure on Dorcas Avenue in Barrow.
This is due to start on the May 28 and will be closed for approximately one week.
This is to to enable carriageway works to be carried out.
This comes just days after Ashburner Way was closed for five days in order to allow urgent cable installation works to be carried out.
