FIREFIGHTERS responded to an incident at Barrow's BAE Systems on Monday.
Three fire engines from Barrow, Walney and Ulverston were called to Waterside House at 7.20pm.
Crews worked alongside colleagues from BAE Systems and the Royal Navy to deal with the incident, which was smoke caused by an electrical short.
Crews were in attendance for approximately 50 minutes.
A spokesperson for BAE Systems said: "We can confirm there was a minor incident on board the fourth Astute class submarine, Audacious, on Monday evening.
"The submarine was safely evacuated, there were no injuries and no damage to the submarine.
"As a precaution, and in line with our normal emergency procedures, appliances from Cumbria Fire and Rescue attended, though the incident was dealt with before they arrived. Employees were able to return to work on the submarine shortly afterwards."
