If you're out of shape and looking to get in to fitness then don't panic, you don't need to go to a spinning class five nights a week to shed a few pounds. Start off with slower exercises at home, raise your fitness levels and with it see your health improve and confidence rise.

Here are four simple exercises to do in your own home, altogether they should take a mere 12-15 minutes so there is no excuse not to try them!

30 Jumping Jacks - Or star jumps to some people! It's best to start with cardio as it will warm up your muscles faster and get your endorphins flowing, making you feel energized.

Lunges - Try to do 30 on each leg, they are great for toning your legs and for balance too. If you're finding it too easy add some light dumbbells for an extra burn. If you don't own any dumbbells then get creative and use bags of sugar or even bottles of wine as weights instead!

Planking - There are dozens of exercises claiming to work the different muscles that make up your core. However if you're short on time, the most efficient way to hit as many core muscles in one go is to assume the plank position and hold for one minute. Repeat three times, or alternate with a right plank position or a left plank position.

Arm Circles - this is the best exercise for toning your arms without weights. Extend your arms out to each side of your body and keep them straight. Then move your arms in smallish circles, as if you are drawing a football-sized ring in the air with your finger. If you can continue this for 3 minutes you will really feel the burn and you will have taken the first step towards banishing bingo wings!
