CUMBRIA police can confirm that a 26-year-old man has died following a collision on the A5092 today.
Police were called at 10.10am to the collision at the Gawthwaite junction, which involved a HGV and a van.
The driver of the van, who is believed to be from the Preston area, was taken to Furness General Hospital where he later died.
The driver of the HGV, a 36-year-old man from Merseyside, suffered minor injuries.
The road remains closed between Lowick Green and Grizebeck as officers conduct collision investigation work. It is not expected to re-open until the early evening.
Motorists and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The family of the man is being supported by specially trained officers.
