A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after armed police were called to Barrow shipyard.
The armed officers were deployed to BAE Systems as a precaution late on Monday night.
A 55-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday following searches of the premises.
He has been bailed until next year.
A Cumbria police spokeswoman confirmed today: "Police arrested a Barrow man on Tuesday 1 December for firearms related offences following a search at a premises on Bridge Road, Barrow.
"Armed police were deployed as a precaution.
"The 55-year-old man has since been bailed until January 23."
A BAE spokesman said: “As the matter is now in the hands of the police, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
