OFFERS of help have been pouring into the Evening Mail’s newly launched Spirit of Cumbria website.
And the #spiritofcumbria hashtag has been seen over 13 million times in less than 24 hours as the Twittersphere throws its weight behind recovery efforts.
The website launched by the Evening Mail's parent company, CN Group, works as a hub, allowing people all across the county to connect, and offer or ask for help via a forum.
Over 55 posts have been made to the forum since the website launched on Monday evening, with the majority of posts offering free help, goods and services to flood victims.
Some of the offers include free photography restoration, free transport, and free data recovery to businesses whose IT equipment was damaged.
Local businesses which have not been directly impacted by the flooding are using the site to let people know they’re still open, whilst extending help to those who need it.
The Cavendish Arms at Cartmel is offering free rooms to flood victims looking for somewhere to stay, and Cumbria Tourism’s Staveley office is making space available to those needing to hot desk - also for free.
Over on the Help Wanted section of the website, there is an appeal for donations to be dropped off at Guide Hall in Millom, tomorrow afternoon.
It’s being organised by the Millom & Area flood relief group, which was set up by Rebecca Myers.
Myers said: “The main things we need are non-perishable foods, baby formula and dietary safe food - gluten free, nut free, things like that”.
Myers continued: “So far there’s been a lot of support. We’re a close knit community and we’re rallying together. We’re still looking for a couple of volunteers and if anyone has a van to help us get supplies to where they need to go, that would be great”.
Anyone wanting to get in touch with Myers can do so through the Millom & Area flood relief group Facebook page.
