FIREFIGHTERS have rescued an elderly couple from flood water in South Cumbria.

The fire service was alerted to a report of a car stuck in flood water near to Oxen Park after 3pm on Thursday.

The service rescue boat with two swift water technicians was deployed and two people were rescued from water on a road known as The Causeway.

The police and ambulance services also attended and the people were understood to be okay.

This is the second rescue of this type on The Causeway. A man and his dog were rescued from a car stuck there on Tuesday night.

Station manager Stuart Dolan warned people not to drive or walk through flood water, as parts of the roads can collapse and manhole covers may have lifted.
