THREE caring and helpful young girls have been nominated to be Evening Mail Christmas Stars.
Friends who volunteer to help run a busy Barrow Christmas grotto have been put forward for the festive treat.
Ellie McCabe and Katie Pugh support Barrow and District Disability Association's Christmas grotto as Santa's main helpers.
Last year the 13-year-olds worked with 538 children and this year it could exceed that number.
Margaret Burrow, honorary chief executive officer of Barrow and District Disability Association, nominated the "wonderful girls" saying: "Both girls turn out every year to be Santa’s main helpers in our grotto. The successful running of the grotto on the day rely heavily of these two selfless girls. They don't stop all day from 9.30am to 3.30pm, except for grabbing a sandwich and a drink. They are both exhausted but elated because their efforts as enable both disabled and non disabled children have a wonderful time which hopefully will live on in their memories for years to come."
Ella Holden. LINDSEY DICKINGS Also nominated to be a Christmas Star is young fundraiser, Ella Holden.
The 11-year-old, of Swarthmoor, is the youngest members of the Joe Andrew's fundraising group.
Ella helps to raise funds in memory of the late Barrow teenager Joe Andrews. Together they raise money to support the running of the North West Air Ambulance Service.
Ella helps out with the stalls at fundraising events, such as the charity football matches, and she did the Coniston to Barrow this year wearing her 'Do it for Joe' t.shirt.
Julie Andrews, the mother of Joe, said; "Ella walked the Coniston to Barrow with a smile on her face all the way. No moaning or groaning or complaining.
She is such a special and thoughtful little girl. She is always happy to help charity events."
Evening Mail Christmas Star nominations have now closed.
Christmas Stars, sponsored by Heath's Toymaster, in Dalton Road, Barrow, will see winners for bravery and kindness receive a visit from Father Christmas at their homes. They will receive gifts from Santa.
Nominees featured in the Evening Mail over the last month are also being invited to attend a Christmas party with Father Christmas on Wednesday December 23 from 4.30pm here at the Evening Mail offices in Abbey Road, Barrow.
