THE Lake District will be getting its first live escape room attraction later this spring.
Promotional image for Cliffhanger Rooms Cliffhanger Rooms is expected to open near Newby Bridge in around six to eight weeks, bringing the worldwide phenomenon to Cumbria for the first time.
Escape games see participants shut in a room with an array of puzzles and problems to solve to secure their release.
Businessman Wayne Riches, also owner of Lakeland Segway, is excited to finally have the go ahead to open.
He says: "Escape games are massive in Europe, Canada and America, but maybe not as big yet in the UK. With the weather we have here at times, we need more indoor attractions for locals and tourists, and this is perfect.
"If you look at TripAdvisor in most cities in Europe, an Escape Room will be in the top one or two."
In the Cliffhanger Rooms, situated in a building close to Lakeland Village's coach house in Backbarrow, there will be three separate themed rooms - including an Egyptian tomb and a bank heist - designed by an expert in Canada and with input from specialists from around the world.
Games will be suitable for two to six people, but all details of the storylines remain top secret at this stage.
