Drivers in Barrow are being monitored more carefully after resident's raised concerns over speeding in the area.
Earlier this week, officers from Barrow NPT installed a new Speed Indication Device [SID] on Abbey Road in response to public advice.
The SID will monitor the 40mph zone, gathering data to allow the police to evaluate whether there is a recurring problem in the driving behaviour of local commuters.
A SID monitors the speed of an oncoming vehicle and then displays the reading to the driver, making them more aware of and accountable for their driving.
They are said to be more cost-effective than other measures, such as road humps and chicanes.
